Cambridge TV Interview/experience

My recent achievements with film and media have involved being accepted into the BFI Cambridge Regional as an Editor for a short film ('Cased') and then from that I was able to be apart of the BFI/NFTS Craft Residential where I achieved the role of Screenwriter ('The Chime of Youth') to which the first ever Set-Build will be made within my group.

EXPERIENCE AND INTERESTS

I have had experiences with working on small sets which I have been a Screenwriter, Director, Art Director or Editor for (or multiple on one project). My current project that I am working on for with the BFI/NFTS Craft Residential is as a Screenwriter where my experience has become much broader, casting actors/actresses, working with young film-makers across the country that I have never met before, building an entire set and involving myself with new contacts. I have also recently been involved with Cambridge TV where I was interviewed based on the Screening of my Short Documentary at the Cambridge Arts Picture House. During the interview I was also able to gain work experience with 'Visual Mixing' where I cut between shots as it was taking place in front of me.

Overall my interests within film are Directing, Screenwriting and Editing. However my long-term goal would be a Screenwriter/Director. I enjoy genres that lean towards the Drama/Tragedy/Family/Fantasy tone, I am not as interested in making fast 'action' or 'comedy' films (even though I still enjoy them). I also enjoy reviewing films, both in a word or video format.

STRENGTHS

Since I have wrote a few screenplays and have had guidance from a graduate of the NFTS, been accepted as a Screenwriter and have received positive feedback from my fellow team-members, I feel as if my skills in Screenwriting have improved and I have been able to adapt and learn from these experiences. I also find that working as a Director I have a found a voice and have been able to show my skills in leadership and been able to work to a good standard on film-sets.

WEAKNESSES

Due to the fact that I am more interested in the creative side of film instead of working with technology, I tend to fall when it comes to other roles such as Gaffer, Grip, Sound Design etc. I have worked with a few of these roles before however they are not my specialty and the quality is not as a good of standard compared to when I trust someone on my team with the role who is more interested. I could improve this however by rolling myself in a couple of short courses involved with e.g. Sound, it will benefit me more in the future when working on sets (and the ability to multi-task).

DEVELOPMENT

Since I feel more interested and invested in the creative aspects of film, I don't tend to be as skilled in more equipment based roles such as e.g. Gaffer, Sound Recordist, Grip etc. However these roles are just as important within film and would benefit myself if learnt more - when working on small sets/crew it is good to be able to multi-task if someone needs help in a certain area or doesn't turn up at all. To build up these skills it would be good to enrol myself in some short courses in my spare time.
