LOUANNE HONEY
UNIT 24
EVALUATION
Within my showreel of work I have decided to include several pieces of material that ranges in genre and style. These projects include 'A Game of Shadows' (Long Form TV), 'Cased' (Short Film), 'Re-Homing: A Cat's Life' (Short Doc), 'Mirage' (Short Film) and 'Dead End Disco Streets' (Music Video). I decided to showcase significant clips that related to my job role to emphasis my abilities within film e.g. Including tension filled direction within A Game of Shadows.
The showreel is edited in a way to compact all my best and recent work into a small time-span so it gets straight to the point. I have made sure to keep it diverse to appeal to multiple genres and possible opportunities. I have also given more time to roles I am more invested within (career aims) and projects associated with larger names (BFI Academy). This executes my experience and dedication to my roles and quality of work to help advance my career when looking for my next job/project.
By not keeping my showreel to one specific job role this also demonstrates the variety of equipment I have worked with - DSLR Cameras, Script formatting, tripod, sliders, Premiere Pro, colour grading, Sound equipment etc. This shows that alongside my career aims of Directing/Screenwriting, I understand other departments and will be able to work alongside them fluently with less stops along the way for explanations. - By working with this equipment I have also developed my skills further by being able to control shutter speeds, aperture (f. stop), focus pulling, sound gain etc. (therefore increasing the quality and image of footage/work).
As you can see from the show-reel there are a multiple range of shots involving different styles of lighting and movement. For example 'Dead End Disco Streets' was purely set in a dark-studio room and lit to focus on one person (centre) to create an isolated effect and tone of negativity. The colours were then boosted when focusing on the lead singer to emphasis the context of 'letting your hair down' will lead you to a happier outcome and perspective on life. Whereas in AGOS was lit and dressed as a realistic set as it was taking on the form of a Long Form TV show that was set in a realistic standard/location e.g. the bar acted as a bar would during the day, and was colour graded to be more 'grainy' to increase the gritty tone of show.
By working in all pre-production, production and post-production I have been able to link myself to each stage when working on one to assist my techniques. For example I have learned to sync sound by clapper boarding during production which will overall aid me when it comes to the editing phase, syncing up sound from the boom-mic's to the footage of the camera. For post-production in general I have also learned how to colour grade, sound mix (something I gained experience from with Cambridge TV), be able to fluently move from shot-to-shot and match each one with the correct footage. All post-production work has been the result of 3yrs of experience with Premiere pro (including Lv2) and therefore increased the overall quality (As can be seen from such works as AGOS, Cased, Re-homing and Dead End).
